Viñaguareña

Viñaguareña is composed of 72 acres planted solely to Tinto de Toro vines between 5 and 31 years of age. The vineyards are located in a valley passage of the Guareña River, a Duero tributary. Viñaguareña notably practices aggressive pruning and subsequent green-cropping techniques to sacrifice an average of 50% of the crop. In addition, Viñaguareña controls several small vineyards with vine ages up to 100 years.

Although this is obviously a small winery, the modern but diminutive facilities are adjacent to the vineyards to ensure careful but efficient small-lug harvesting. The wines are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel. The Tinto undergoes malolactic fermentation in tank while the Barrica and Crianza wines develop in a mixture of French and American oak barrels. These are remarkable wines.
