The “Santa Venere” organic farm, extends for 150 hectares, on the hills of an ancient Calabrian village of Cirò, in the province of Crotone, particularly known for its history and culture. It’s an area considered extremely valuable for wine and olive growing. Since 1600 the farm, crossed by the Santa Venere river, has been the property of the Scala family.

In this area, the vineyards, olive, and fruit trees, grow with the advantage of both climate, and particular characteristics of the land. Organic farming has been practiced since 1996, a further confirmation of a continuous, and careful product optimization.

As of the 2004 harvest, the oenologist Riccardo Cotarella, accepted the challenge issued by the Scala family of bringing “Gaglioppo”, one of the most ancient vines of the Magna Grecia, to its past splendor.

A field experiment has been carried out, introducing autochthonous grape varieties that had disappeared from the Calabrian territory.

Alongside all of this is the decision, made by the oenologist, for drastic pruning in the vineyard in order to obtain a top quality wine.
